En fantastisk anmeldelse på Neurodivergens er landet:
“When Maja reached out and asked if I wanted to read her post-apocalyptic novel, I was genuinely thrilled. I knew this book would fit perfectly with the season we’re in — dark, thought-provoking, and emotional.
In Neurodivergens, we meet Miki, a teenager with autism. He thrives in his routines and familiar surroundings, but everything changes when an unknown pandemic wipes out almost everyone, leaving him completely alone. Imagine waking up to silence after chaos… no people, just the echoes of a world that once was.
As Miki struggles to survive, he encounters mutated animals — and one very special puppy. “Puppy” might be an understatement, because this creature is huge, deformed, and honestly pretty ugly. But Miki names it Beast.
Beast quickly becomes his loyal companion and a lifeline against loneliness.
The dystopian atmosphere reminded me a lot of The Walking Dead — the abandoned places, the constant tension, and that haunting feeling that something’s always lurking in the dark.
But Neurodivergens isn’t just a survival story. It’s about acceptance, difference, and the strength that comes from what makes us unique. Miki discovers that his autism — something that used to hold him back — now becomes his greatest asset. His structured way of thinking, sharp memory, and self-awareness help him navigate this dangerous new world.
Later, he meets Luka, a girl with ADHD who talks nonstop and sees the world through her own vibrant lens. Their meeting brings warmth and hope into the story. Along with Beast, they form an unexpected little family in a broken world.
I love how respectfully and insightfully Maja writes about neurodivergence.
She also weaves in small references to familiar works like The Three Musketeers and Shaun the Sheep — little touches that made me smile. The writing is smooth, easy to read, and kept me hooked from start to finish.
I also really appreciated that the very first page explains what “neurodivergence” means — such a thoughtful and educational detail.
A truly powerful and moving post-apocalyptic novel that’s not only about survival, but also about finding acceptance — both in yourself and in others.
I sincerely hope many young readers (and adults!) pick this one up.
